About The Project

Jirgens civil were engaged by Shoalhaven city council for the design and installation of the penguin head viewing platforms. The project required the demolition and disposal of the dilapidated platform and the design, fabrication and installation of the New replacements. Jirgens civil and MI Engineers worked together to develop a suitable design that would be aesthetically pleasing but still robust enough to handle the aggressive marine environment. Madge welding and fabrication were contracted for the galvanised substructure and handrails.

While the deck was covered with APR composite decking. Interconnecting footpaths were installed and the site received access limitation fencing and Landscaping. The project was well received by the SCC and will provide whale and bird watchers with a safe, durable, vantage point for decades to come.

Vaughan made a great assessment of my requested job and suggested some features and enhancements I had not considered. When the team arrived they were really clear on what needed to be done and fell upon the job with enthusiasm and professional care. For all that, I felt in control of the process throughout. The job progressed really quickly and was completed to a much higher standard than I had hoped for. The attention to detail (even with "big" earthworks) and the care of my existing infrastructure was impressive and confidence-building, even when there were some unexpected but inevitable setbacks (a stormwater pipe that I was unaware of was damaged, but quickly assessed and repaired). Overall, a relatively painless experience that has resulted in a magnificent end product of a solid (and beautiful) road and driveway. The cost was well within my expectations for the work conducted. Well done to the Teams, and thanks Jirgens for a brilliant job.
